I had the honor and privilege to represent GMIS International at the MISA Ontario "Internet of Things" Conference May 31-June 3 in London, Ontario. The conference was attended by more than 500 MISA members and nearly 70 vendors. The conference packed in four days of impressive speakers, stellar breakout sessions, and many opportunities to network with both vendors and MISA friends and members.

I had the unique opportunity to meet and spend time talking with the guest of honor, the Honourable Ed Holder, Minister of State (Science & Technology) for the Canadian government, who addressed attendees at the opening reception. We discussed open data and the technology challenges we are facing in both the U.S. and Canada in the 21st century.

The Internet of Things certainly is challenging, but rich in opportunities for those of us managing and leading public sector IT in our agencies. Open data, regional IT initiatives and governance, as well as managing the "Internet of Things" was covered in detail by both industry experts and fellow IT public sector professionals in the sessions throughout the conference.

Finally, I was very impressed with the live Twitter wall where attendees and MISA Ontario engaged attendees with real-time posts throughout the conference, and I even launched my first Twitter account to join and share in this unique social media experience!

Kudos to MISA Ontario for an awesome 2015 conference!

If you have the opportunity to join our Canadian friends at a MISA Conference, it will no doubt be a rewarding and beneficial experience. I am definitely looking forward to my next opportunity to re-engage with MISA!
