The U.S. economy added 151,000 jobs in January, well below the robust pace at the end of 2015, though the unemployment rate fell under 5 percent for the first time in nearly eight years. The unemployment rate ticked down to 4.9 percent from 5 percent, the lowest level since February 2008, the Labor Department reported on Friday. Economists had expected between 185,000 and 200,000 jobs and January’s numbers will add to fears about the strength of the economy in 2016.

But a regional manager for the group said the roundtable also was formed to highlight the continued importance of manufacturing as a regional industry.

Students learn the fundamentals of gear manufacturing in this classroom and hands-on course. In the classroom this course offers training in gearing and nomenclature, principles of inspection, gear manufacturing methods, and hobbing and shaping. In the hands-on gear lab, using manual machines, students can see the interaction between the cutting tool and the workpiece. They understand the process and the physics of making a gear and can apply this knowledge in working with CNC equipment commonly in use.

It’s been five years since the venture capitalist Marc Andreessen quipped that "software is eating the world," meaning that all of the digital tools and platforms needed to transform industries through software finally worked and were doing that. To prove his point Andreessen ticked off a long list of mostly consumer-facing service industries like bookselling, music, telecom, and air travel that were being productively disrupted.
