Forbes One reason why manufacturing is returning to the U.S. is stagnant wages. Other reasons are because of logistics, location to other markets the manufacturer is targeting, and high productivity due to automation. BBC Engineering and manufacturing employers' organisation EEF found that pay rose by 2.6% over the past year while wages have been stagnant or falling in other industries. EEF said business confidence in the sector was improving. The study came as the Bank of England said low wage increases could become the norm over the next few years.

Manufacturing.net Agricultural equipment maker Deere is laying off about 460 employees indefinitely from an Iowa tractor factory as it continues to adjust to market demand. The Moline, Illinois, company said Friday that the latest round of layoffs will be effective October 20.

The complete changeover to build the aluminum-intensive 2015 Ford F-150 is expected to take eight weeks.
