CPA Meets with Cape Breton Regional Municipality Representatives

Jean-François Duguay, CPA Director, Government Relations, Atlantic & Quebec, and CPA member Darrell Cormier of Scotia Propane met with Mark Bettens, Executive Assistant to the Mayor and Wayne McDonald, Director, Engineering and Public Works of the Cape Breton Regional Municipality (CBRM).

Discussions centered primarily on auto propane and its advantages for municipalities, such as reducing GHG emissions in public fleets, saving on fuel costs and lowering vehicle maintenance costs. The CPA presented case studies on other municipalities relying on auto propane for their fleets like the London Police, ON, the Saguenay Police, QC, and the City of Dieppe, NB, who is currently conducting auto propane assessments on one of their vehicles.

The Federation of Canadian Municipalities has programming and funding in place for the implementation of such projects. The CBRM representatives were very receptive to the idea of auto propane for municipal fleets; the CPA will provide the CBRM with a more detailed proposal in the coming weeks.
