Steps for BC Homeowners to Protect their Homes from Wildfires

On behalf of the Board and the staff of the CPA, our hearts and well wishes go out to all British Columbians threatened by the forest fires. FireSmart Canada is asking British Columbia homeowners affected by the devastating wildfires burning throughout the province to review their home ignition zone. This zone includes the condition of the house and its immediate surroundings, such as garages, decks, porches, or fences near the house. They have also provided simple steps for homeowners to make their home ignition zone a deterrent to wildfire progress, including moving propane tanks 10 metres away from structures as well as removing weeds and other debris from the area around large stationary propane tanks. For the complete list of steps, visit the FireSmart Canada website.

The Red Cross is collecting donations here to help families displaced by the fires. To make a $10 donation by phone, text "FIRES" to 45678. Donations to the Red Cross are now accepted at all B.C. Liquor Stores and Canadian Tire locations.
