"The EPA is proposing to repeal the CPP in its entirety," the agency writes in the notice that would be published in the Federal Register, as reported by The Hill.

Reich Brothers Holdings, a company that buys shuttered factories and sells their assets, says it has agreed to purchase the former Oscar Mayer headquarters and hopes to bring manufacturing back to the East Side site. The transaction is expected to close at the end of October, said co-CEO Adam Reich. "We firmly believe anything we do with the property should be in concert with local and state officials, with the infrastructure, the economy and with the job base," Reich told the Wisconsin State Journal. "We are looking to do something that’s going to attract jobs."

As the economy shows signs of improvement, so too do the rail and intermodal transportation markets. However, it bears repeating that even in the leaner economic times of recent years, these markets did a better than average job of persevering while it appeared that the other major modes were limping along. And all that hard work appears to be paying off, as the current state of the rail and intermodal markets looks promising, considering that volumes are up compared to a year ago at this time. Meanwhile, rail and intermodal players continue to seek pricing gains. In fact, rates are slowly starting to trend up again, while service levels remain below ideal levels—something that has not gone unnoticed by shippers. All of these factors—coupled with the ever-changing regulatory maze of challenges—continue to make these markets complex, competitive, vibrant and challenging all at once.

TIA has received several emails from members regarding a letter from "UCRregistration.com" concerning 2018 Unified Carrier Registration (UCR) payments and registration. "UCRregistration.com" is not associated with the UCR and is charging more than the UCR registration fee. The Single State Registration System officially ended on January 1, 2007, and was replaced by the Unified Carrier Registration Agreement (UCR). The UCR was established in the Highway Reauthorization Bill enacted on August 10, 2005 (SAFETEA-LU, P.L. 109-59). UCR requires all motor carriers (including private, for-hire and exempt carriers), as well as brokers, freight forwarders and leasing companies to register with the United States Department of Transportation (USDOT) annually. In addition, a broker is required to pay a $76 registration fee each year. Currently 41 states are participating in the UCR, but you must register even if you are not domiciled in one of those participating base states. A base state will be assigned to you. States are starting to ramp up enforcement of collecting unpaid UCR fees, so register today by visiting the Unified Carrier Registration System’s webpage. If you need assistance registering with the UCR, please contact Chris Burroughs at burroughs@tianet.org or 703-299-5705.
