Water Haller: I know it’s summer, but November is coming quickly

I know it’s summer and no one wants to think about November yet, but it’s time. Every year, CWWA members try to give me a heart attack by waiting until the last week to register for the National Conference. Stop doing that!

Conference Registration is open for the National Water & Wastewater Conference in St. John’s, Newfoundland from November 5th to 8th. So start your approval process now. The full technical program is available online www.nwwc2017.ca and should be more than enough to convince you (or your boss) that you have to be there. Once again, we have a wide range of topic streams for all aspects of our industry with a strong focus throughout on utility leadership. We also promise a fun time in St. John’s.

National Reports:
Canada’s Ecofiscal Commission is getting ready to release a report on Water Pricing and the Environment. A number of CWWA members (including myself) were invited to serve as advisors to the study that provides solid arguments for full cost accounting and the setting of appropriate water rates. We think this will be a helpful report for convincing local councils and boards on the importance of this issue.

CWWA has partnered with Public Sector Digest and the Canadian Water Network to conduct a national survey on water/wastewater infrastructure including helpful case studies. This study also involved the FCM and Infrastructure Canada. The survey is completed and the results will be available this fall.

CWWA wants to thank all those that participated in the National Water Sector Resiliency Survey we conducted with Public Safety Canada and Dalhousie University. The results are be analyzed now and we should see the results this fall.

* All three of these national reports will be featured at the National Conference in St. John’s!
