Red Tape Reduction Regulations Establish One-for-One Rule in Law

Proposed Red Tape Reduction Regulations, pursuant to the Red Tape Reduction Act, were published in the June 27, 2015 edition of Canada Gazette Part I. The Red Tape Reduction Act, which received royal assent April 23, 2015, establishes a ‘One-for-One Rule’ whereby an existing regulation must be eliminated every time a new regulation is introduced.

The objective of the proposed Red Tape Reduction Regulations is to support implementation of the Act by prescribing in law operational elements critical to ongoing operations and that support transparency and government accountability for implementing the One for One Rule.

It will be interesting to see if this new Regulation results in a reduction in the actual regulatory and administrative burden for members.
