The 16th Canadian National Conference on Drinking Water is the national conference of the Federal-Provincial-Territorial Committee on Drinking Water, and that group is an integral part of planning and setting the program. The event attracts water researchers, regulators and utilities across the country.

Check out the Technical Program and Opening Plenary Speakers

The entire technical program is online. We have a wide-range of speakers presenting on the latest research in water quality including presentations on new techniques to analyze water, new treatment technologies, several sessions dedicated to QMRA and other risk management tools. CWWA, the Canadian Water Network and WaterTap are also collaborating to expand the program to add more sessions that focus on the topics that matter most to our utility members. We have sessions exploring the challenges of full cost pricing and recovery, the legal and scientific research on lead in large buildings, the new "Blue Cities" initiatives and more. We’re still adding new topics and sessions so be sure to continue to check the program.

We’ve also added new information on our exciting plenary session. Leading water expert Larry Moore interviews author Ralph Pentland co-author of the recent book Down the Drain: How We are Failing to Protect Our Water Resources. In his book Ralph challenges Canada’s water regulation and management.

This interactive plenary session will explore what we, as water utility managers, operators, researchers and regulators, are doing to meet the emerging threats to water quality, security and supply. Are we doing enough? What can we do better? Where are we failing? Where are we excelling?

The dialogue, discussion and issues raised will cast an exacting eye on water regulation and management across the country – raising issues that we, as an industry, need to tackle together. It will also highlight the amazing work communities across the country are doing as keepers of our water resources, and celebrate the amazing gift of clean safe drinking water.

Learn how climate change could impact water utilities and discuss how we can adapt

CWWA’s Climate Change Committee is organizing a one-day Workshop planned in parallel with the Conference.  The Workshop is fully integrated into the Conference program allowing delegates the flexibility to attend the whole day, or pop into presentations that interest them.

The focus of the workshop will be on coping with climate related extremes such as flooding and drought, the impact on budgets of climate change adaptation, how municipalities can fund climate change adaptation of their infrastructure, and how can resilience to climate change be improved.

A group of dedicated climate change experts will present and be part of a panel discussion on Climate Change and Resource Needs. A separate roundtable exercise will provide an opportunity for delegates to discuss their roadblocks, successes and ideas on opportunities for further collaboration.
