The Canadian Council of Ministers of the Environment (CCME) recently announced that it is developing (via contract) a guidance document for Groundwater Sustainability Assessment Approach (GSAA) for release in November 2014.

In 2010 CCME’s Water Management Committee (WMC) commissioned a report by Gordon Groundwater Consulting to develop a Groundwater Sustainability Assessment Approach (GSAA) intended to provide a consistent means of tracking the status of groundwater resources. In 2012-13, a Project Team piloted the GSAA to determine its suitability for assessing groundwater sustainability in five diverse study areas. The pilot studies concluded the GSAA is a high-level
framework that can be interpreted for application across various scales, locations and circumstances.
