Study finds no proven adverse effects of fracking

A study released last week by the National Groundwater Association finds no "definitively documented" cases of widespread adverse water quality or quantity problems attributable to hydrologic fracturing by the oil and gas industry. The study is consistent with the 2013 AWWA white paper "Water and Hydraulic Fracturing," which found that there were likely to be no such impacts if fracking is done in accordance with state and federal standards and industry best practices. Like the AWWA report, the NGWA report stresses the importance of properly constructing wells, sealing abandoned wells, effectively managing water use and managing wastewaters at the surface.
