New Ecofiscal Commission Report: Best practices for pricing and improving municipal water and wastewater services

Municipal water and wastewater services are vital to our health, the economy, and the environment. Yet many municipal water and wastewater systems across Canada face significant challenges. The prices we pay for these services are some of the lowest in the world and don’t reflect the full costs of providing and maintaining our infrastructure and protecting our water resources. 


Well-designed user fees can help address each of these interconnected challenges by motivating conservation, funding infrastructure, and protecting our water quality. They can also be designed to ensure that water is affordable for low-income households. Only the Pipes Should be Hidden includes:
