In Memoriam: Pyar Dossal

Pyar Dossal, FCIA(1965), FIA(1958), ASA(1958)

Pyar Dossal, who passed away this month at the age of 87, is said to have been the first Muslim born in India to qualify as an actuary. He earned his Fellowship of the CIA in 1965, having already been a Fellow of the UK Institute and an Associate of the Society of Actuaries for seven years.

The early years of his career in Canada were spent at Excelsior Life in Toronto, ON, and his later positions included working for Commercial Life Assurance and becoming vice-president at Sedgwick Tomenson Associates (later Sedgwick James Consulting Group).
