The CLFP Supplier Host Council (SHC) Golf Tournament will be held October 24 in Stockton, Calif. This is the 20th year for this perennially popular tournament, and it will convene at a new venue in Stockton – The Reserve at Spanos Park. Participation in the tournament is open to CLFP SHC and food processor members.The tournament helps raise funds for CLFP’s scholarship program.

On July 29, President Obama signed into law a bill that will require food companies to label products containing genetically modified ingredients and establishes a federal labeling standard.

The California Legislature returned from its summer recess on August 1 and has until August 12 to move bills out of fiscal committees and to the floors of the Assembly and Senate. The deadline for the Legislature to pass bills and send them to Governor Brown is midnight on August 31, after which the Legislature will adjourn its two-year 2015-16 legislative session.

The Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) is the first major update of federal food safety laws since 1938. FSMA gives the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) broad new powers to prevent food safety problems, detect and respond to food safety issues and improve the safety of imported foods.

Regulatory Insights
The San Joaquin Valley Air Pollution Control District (SJVAPCD) held a workshop on July 26 to obtain comments and launch the public comment period on the district's proposal to amend Rule 2201 (New and Modified Stationary Source Review (NSR) Rule). The district is proposing to amend Rule 2201 to respond to comments received from the California Air Resources Board (CARB) and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) on the district's February 18, 2016, amendments.
 
On July 21, the California Air Resources Board (CARB) approved proposed amendments to the Large Spark-Ignition (LSI) Engine Fleet Requirements Regulation, which applies to operators of forklifts, sweeper/scrubbers, industrial tow tractors and airport ground support equipment (GSE). If adopted, the 2016 proposed amendments would require operators of in-use fleets to report and label LSI equipment and continue existing record keeping requirements previously set to expire June 30, 2016.
