In 2000, Johnson & Johnson Medical Products introduced the Award of Excellence in Sterile Processing to recognize contributions to the Sterile Processing Profession by non-management sterile processing personnel. We did this because based on our observations while working with you in your hospital, it was evident that the front line workers significantly influenced change in sterile processing. This must be above and beyond their paid position or union position. Please consider nominating one of your peers or employees who have been involved in special projects, teaching, motivating or mentoring others, and developing or implementing innovative ideas. I would venture to guess that you have one of these people in your department. Thanks for taking the time to recognize these special people.

Albert Einstein once said "God does not play dice with the universe," meaning there was a purpose and order for things we see in it. I believe this applies to our field of work. As a myriad of new monitoring products along with their stated uses enter the market they will find a place, a meaning, and a purpose. Recommended practices and standards will be developed by AAMI, AORN, and the CDC to guide us to best practice thereby protecting the people for whom we are all doing our best every day, our patients.
