The American Coal Council welcomes Mr. David A. Christian to present our Keynote address on August 11, 2015 at the Coal Market Strategies Conference in Park City, Utah August 10-12, 2015. Mr. Christian is Executive Vice President and Chief Executive Officer for Dominion Generation. He oversees the more than 24,600 megawatt generation operations of Dominion’s merchant fleet and regulated generation assets. Dominion serves utility and retail energy customers in 13 states with its generation portfolio of fossil, nuclear, and renewables. Its fossil-fueled power stations use coal, natural gas and oil. Dominion also has 12,200 miles of natural-gas transmission, gathering and storage pipeline and operates one of the nation's largest natural gas storage systems with 928 billion cubic feet of storage capacity.

Please join us at Coal Market Strategies as Mr. Christian shares Dominion’s perspective on the many issues impacting the coal and electric power sectors, including government energy policy and regulation, electricity markets, and coal and gas marketplace dynamics.

Jason Hayes recently spoke at the Wyoming Business Council’s, 2015 Wyoming Energy Summit in Casper, WY.

He was featured on a panel with Dan Byers of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. Dan and Jason were invited to discuss the Clean Air Act and its impact on Wyoming. Both presentations focused heavily on the Clean Power Plan and other impending EPA regulations.

Their discussions were featured in a May 13th Wyoming Business Report article, titled "Panel: Coal the first of many energy targets."

Jason’s presentation slides are available on the Presentations page in the Member section of the ACC website.

If you, or your organization needs a speaker to discuss coal, energy policy, markets, etc. at your next event, don’t hesitate to contact the ACC. We would be happy to discuss options with you.

The ACC would not exist without the support of our members and supporters.

Thank you to the folks at Westmoreland Coal Company for their consistent support of the ACC, via our publications program and their ad in this month’s calendar page.

Training and Education
Featuring: Ray Gifford and Matt Larson of Wilkinson Barker Knauer, LLP

Wednesday, June 17, 2015, 2 pm - 3 pm Eastern

Summer is underway and EPA’s final carbon emissions regulations for the power sector are expected before it concludes. States have several potential paths forward, from not submitting a compliance plan, to submitting a "building block 1-only" plan, to providing a plan with all four building blocks. Additionally, there is the question of whether and how to align with other states.

Join us as we welcome Raymond and Matthew to discuss potential compliance paths with an emphasis on the "Common Elements" approach. This approach purports to circumvent barriers to interstate market programs by proposing that a state could develop its own plan and allow plant operators to transfer compliance credits among electric generating units within and among states that share common elements in their compliance plans, rather than the approach of building a multi-state plan to meet a joint CO2 target.

Raymond and Matthew will address key "Common Elements" questions including:
• What are the political and legal issues and concerns?
• Does a "common elements" plan satisfy EPA state plan approval criteria?
• Will such an approach provide cost savings, and ease administrative burdens?

There is no charge for members of the American Coal Council, but pre-registration is required. Non-members may register for a fee of $50. Space is limited to the first 50 registrants. Register TODAY!

Be sure to set aside June 17th at 2 pm Eastern on your calendar!

Here is another article that looks at the true costs of generating electricity from wind.

As I have noted in many previous Coalblog posts, we consistently hear how wind generation has achieved "cost parity" with fossil fuels. However, a closer look at the actual costs involved reveal a much different story, with wind power coming in at an estimated $149 / MWh.
