BIG Ideas, BIG Solutions! One of our past presidents often reminds us that everything is bigger in Texas, and that was certainly true of our 2014 CCBO Annual International Conference in San Antonio.

  • Jonathan Bowman, our opening session speaker, had a truly inspiring story and reminded us that "picturing your destination is the first step to achieving something great."
  • Dr. Ken Atwater, President of Hillsborough Community College and Chair of AACC, introduced us to the 21st Century Initiative for Reclaiming the American Dream and the new Implementation Guide, and he encouraged business officers to become more involved.
  • Dr. Mark Milliron, Co-Founder and Chief Learning Officer of Civitas Learning, shared exciting analytics information that showed what a difference we can make in helping our students to be successful by getting the right data to the right people in the right way.
  • Elizabeth Quintanilla, our closing session speaker, reminded us of how important it was to tell the story. Our students do some pretty incredible things – let’s tell their story!

With 153 delegates in attendance, the conference showed its highest attendance in recent history. There were 27 Leadership Academy participants, of whom 17 were first year students. The conference offered over 20 educational sessions and the opportunity to connect with representatives from 24 different companies in the exhibit hall.

I was also thrilled to hear during the conference of so many people wanting to become more involved in CCBO. The best way to get involved in CCBO is through one of our five committees: Membership and Marketing, Conference Planning, Audit and Finance, Professional Development, and Awards. The membership is only for one year, unless you would like to stay on longer - that is always welcome. The current list of committees is on the website. Please take a look, and if you are interested in joining, please contact Lillian De Lisle, Managing Director, and she will be happy to add you to the list.

What a great conference it was and a BIG thank you to all of you that made it such a BIG success. I look forward to seeing each of you next year in Las Vegas.
