CHAIRMAN'S MESSAGE

Dear BOMA New York Members,

We are honored to announce that the Republican candidate for Governor of New York, Marc Molinaro will be the keynote speaker at our Annual Conference & Leadership Breakfast on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 from 8:00AM to 10:00AM at Club 101. In addition, BOMA New York will announce its 2019 Officers and Board of Directors at this event. Registration will be open in the following weeks.

Other upcoming events that we are excited about include the September 12th Annual Membership Event as well as the Mock Disaster Simulation Seminar on September 27th. Chances are that while you read this, an unexpected disaster is causing a commercial property owner/management team stress and confusion. Is the team prepared to handle it? Will they be able to recover? Emergency & Preparedness Planning has never been more critical to the safety and security of facilities than today, regardless of their size, location or industry. However, creating, maintaining and exercising such a plan remains a low priority. This session has been designed to put you in the throes of a real-life disaster situation, as it unfolds. You will make the critical decisions any building owner/management team will have to make - and deal with the consequences of those decisions! After you've finished, you'll understand the importance of planning in advance for a disaster or other business disruption.

As the summer is nearing to a close, we are pleased to share updates on several recent successful BOMA New York activities. Our membership is the foundation of our success, and your participation is a true testament to the strength of the organization and our future growth. Recently, BOMA New York launched two new membership categories to elevate your success. Allied and Professional Members are now able to apply for one additional local membership for a discounted rate of $650. The discounted rate includes a ticket to our Annual Membership Event on September 12th.  Another category recently launched was the Emerging Leaders membership for individuals that are 35 years of age and under, employed by Allied and Professional Firms. I urge all members to take advantage of these opportunities. For details on benefits and other information, please contact Ami Shah at ami@bomany.com.

BOMA New York has also launched an Asset Management Committee chaired by Dom Rauccio of Hines. The first meeting was held on Thursday, August 16 and I am pleased to say we had a great turnout. The goal of the Asset Management Committee is to enhance asset value by connecting property and asset managers through education and networking. The Committee will provide a forum to discuss topics and issues related to commercial real estate asset management.

Our members at BOMA New York are the driving force of our organization and represent countless facets of our industry. We look forward to propelling our important issues forward, connecting and cultivating new partnerships and working together as we close out a successful season.

Sincerely,
Ronald S. Zeccardi
President of BOMA New York

LEGISLATIVE UPDATE

First and foremost, we are gearing up for the Annual Conference and Leadership Breakfast on October 17th at Club 101. So far, we have secured the participation of a keynote speaker, Marc Molinaro, Republican candidate for Governor of New York. Check him out HERE.Keep your eyes out for the invitation to sponsor and/or attend the event, coming soon.

Many of you are aware that there was a major steam pipe explosion at Fifth Avenue and 21st Street that impacted buildings for a number of surrounding blocks. In response, BOMA New Your put on its government affairs hat and jumped onto calls with OEM and other partners to track issues and to stay abreast of the City’s and Con Edison’s response to the emergency. We worked with these partners to help a BOMA/NY member get into their building to secure it prior to a major weather event and the hosing down of the building as part of the remediation effort. Should you ever have an issue with a City agency, please call BOMA New York and we will do our best to help you solve it.

In Case You Missed It

On June 21, 2018, BOMA New York hosted an exclusive tour of the iconic MetLife Building. The tour was led by Mark Landstrom, Senior Property Manager of Tishman Speyer, starting off with a visit to the building mechanical plant and finishing off with breathtaking views of the rooftops. Participants learned about the challenges of running a 3 million square-foot building at the top of Grand Central Terminal. We ended the tour at the Beer Bar for networking, beverages and appetizers.
