Counselling Corner
Post Secondary Institutions in BC
The time from September to June seems so endlessly long, yet unbelievably short to students in grade 12. Many have already made the decision about their future beyond high school and their applications will easily meet the early application deadline to the post-secondary institution of their choice. Many more, though, are now deciding where to send those applications. The PSI-BC information website provides a great resource for counsellors for collecting details the students may not find on their own. Use this website for information on events and for quick links to relevant information from each PSI. This is a handy place to have everything in one spot and at your fingertips.

Relationships - the most important ingredient of school success
In case you missed this short article in the latest issue of the BC Counsellor magazine, here's a link for you. "Back to School Thoughts" by Eva deGosztonyi emphasizes the importance of relationships in school success. This is true both of the relationship of the student to the teacher and the teacher to the student. As teachers and counsellors, we know that our job will be easier and more enjoyable when we truly enjoy our interactions with the young people in our world. Learning to connect and build those relationships is what this article is about.

Community Action Initiative
Are you concerned about mental health in your community? Do you have an idea for improving mental health service in your community? Check out the Community Action Initiative (CAI). The CAI was established in 2008 by the BC Alliance for Mental Health/Illness through a grant from the Province of BC. Additional funding was received in 2013 and there is still funding available. The CAI provides funding and training opportunities for community-based organizations across BC to develop and implement innovative service projects that respond to the needs of individuals and families experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges in their communities.
