The U.S. property market landscape in 2016 will appear similar to that of 2015, with a number of interwoven aspects that bode well for savvy investors who can step out in front of ongoing, and in some cases intensifying, economic, demographic and technological trends.

The National Center for Education Statistics expects enrollment rates to grow in 2016, which will boost demand for student housing, which is looking more like Class-A luxury every day.

A swanky new condo building rising 35 stories is set to break ground in the Rainey Street district. 70 Rainey will include a street-level restaurant and garage that will accommodate some public parking.

With the high pace of downtown development and a new major project seemingly breaking ground each week, the Austin skyline of mid-2018 will be vastly different from what we see now.

A tower crane was assembled this weekend at the Hyatt House project located at 901 Neches. Crews started excavation and site prep work on the site in October of 2015. Today, crews were on site finishing up the assembly of the tower crane which will help facilitate construction of the 10-story building.

Austinites will be getting a new hike-and-bike bridge over Barton Creek and Loop 360. The bridge will parallel MoPac and create a way to get from south Austin downtown without a car.

From the opening of Zaha Hadid's cliff-side Alpine museum, to the ongoing controversy surrounding Herzog & de Meuron Parisian tower and Tokyo's 2020 Olympic stadium. But what feats of construction and design have we got to look forward to in 2016?

We've been talking about crowdfunding, and how it would disrupt the industry, for awhile. But critical mass is still coming and the sector is about to explode.

Construction startups are hot and getting hotter. In an industry notorious for late adoption of technology, apps and innovative devices abound — and there doesn’t seem to be any sign of retreat. So the question remains: What is it about the construction industry that is generating so much excitement in the startup world?

I want to broach a subject today that is painful for me. I love our industry – almost everything about it – the people, the pace, the financial rewards, the freedom and flexibility. And most of all, helping business owners achieve their dreams with commercial real estate.

But I have witnessed some practices that are scary and self-serving

The up cycle we’re enjoying is unlike any we’ve ever experienced. There are forces at play that are unique to the times, and challenge each of us to respond in different ways. Indeed, these are good times, redefined, brought into high-definition, so to speak, in three areas directly impacting our business: the nature of opportunity, the oddity of our economy and the growing threat of terrorism.
