ASHHRA eNews Brief
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
Dear ASHHRA Colleagues,

What an honor and privilege it is to serve as your president for 2015!

As 2015 begins, I have reflected on how much my ASHHRA membership has meant to me over the years. I have learned so many valuable lessons and gained great insight from many of you. I have had the opportunity to build lasting relationships with colleagues, to participate in learning sessions and attend many wonderful ASHHRA conferences. One of the true highlights of my ASHHRA membership has been the volunteer work that I have had the privilege of doing with our organization. Volunteering and giving back is a core principal to me. I believe it has made me a stronger human resource health care professional and enhanced my ability to serve my hospital system and help me prepare for the future. Attaining my CHHR certification has also added to my professional growth and development. The CHHR certification is an opportunity to demonstrate our knowledge and expertise in the health care arena of Human Resources. I hope you will consider taking this certification in 2015!

ASHHRA could not continue to prosper without the dedication and work of our volunteers. Each and every one of you has made a significant contribution to ASHHRA, and it is greatly appreciated. Let me thank those board members who have ended their board service to ASHHRA in 2014:
  • Amy Barry, MBA, senior vice president and chief Human Resource officer at Lakeland Regional Health System, Lakeland, Fla.
  • Marit Brock, SPHR, CMPE, chief Human Resource officer at Minnesota Gastroenterology, PA, St. Paul, Minn.
  • Nicole Morin Scribner, SPHR, director of Human Resources and learning at St. Mary’s Health System, Lewiston, Maine -- Health System, New England
  • Lynette Walker, RN, Ph.D., CHHR, Vice President of Baptist Health Lexington, Lexington, Ky.
  • And our outgoing Past President Grace Blair Moffitt, CHHR, vice president of Human Resources at Cone Health, Greensboro, N.C., whose leadership and vision has helped guide ASHHRA over the last several years.
Welcome to these new members of the 2015 ASHHRA Board of Directors:
  • James E. Parsons, SPHR, FACHE, vice president/chief Human Resources officer, Mountain States Health Alliance, Johnson City, Tenn., At-Large Board Director
  • Gary L. Pastore, CHHR, manager of Human Resources, Scottsdale Healthcare, Scottsdale, Ariz., At-Large Board Director
  • Juliet D. Nelson, SPHR, CHHR, director, Human Resources, Providence Health & Services, Walla Walla, Wash., Chapter Officer Director
  • Sarah A. Fredrickson, director, Human Resources, Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn., Regional Director
  • Deana K. Thomas, Ed.D., RN, senior director, Human Resources & Organizational Development, Randolph Hospital, Asheboro, N.C.,  New-to-the Profession Director
As you all know, 2014 brought about change at our executive director position as well. We are excited to begin the year working with Dawn Rose, our ASHHRA executive director! I know many of you were able to meet Dawn at the annual conference in Chicago, when she was brand new to her job.

I also want to thank Maureen O’Keeffe for her leadership as president in 2014. With the ED vacancy, Maureen helped steady the ship and provided much needed leadership to our organization over the last year.

I am looking forward to the new year and working together as Strategic Leaders for Healthcare’s Future!

Debbie Rubens, CHHR, SPHR-CA
