ASHHRA eNews Brief
PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

Please let me take a moment to thank Mike Paruta and the Advocacy Committee for their recent Hill Visit. The Committee was able to have dialogue with our elected officials regarding issues such as the health care workforce, employee relations issues, and RN staffing ratios. Take a moment to review the 2013 ASHHRA Advocacy Position Papers for more details.

Join your colleagues by being one of the first health care human resource professionals to become certified! We are looking for 100 of you to join us on Tuesday, October 1, the last day of the Annual Conference, to sit for the certification. Many thanks to Maureen O’Keeffe and the Certified in Healthcare Human Resources (CHHR) Committee for all their efforts to make this certification a reality. Click here to learn more about the CHHR certification program.

If you are considering a career change, ASHHRA can help. The ASHHRA Career Center is one of the many benefits of your membership. Create a profile or post your resume on the Career Center.

Please take time to vote! Thanks to Irma Pye and the Nominating Committee for providing a diverse and highly qualified slate of candidates for the 2014 ASHHRA Board. All eligible voters as stated in the Bylaws ("Each practitioner, emeritus, and past president member of ASHHRA") should have received the notice to vote on Mon., June 10. Check your email for that message. If you believe you are eligible and did not receive the notice to vote, please send an email to ashhra@aha.org with "Board Voting" in the subject line.

As I close, I would ask you to reflect on June as a milestone month from an inclusion perspective... we as human resource professionals can pause to remember June 1, 2009, when President Obama proclaimed June as the month to observe Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender Pride Month. Join me this month as we express our strength through inclusion by ensuring that all of our patients receive care free of bias. I encourage us to take the opportunity to demonstrate the ASHHRA leadership competency of leading with our hearts... by embracing differences to develop a more diverse workforce.

Let us continue the journey to the possibility for inclusion for all.

Strength Through Inclusion,

Grace Blair Moffitt
