Reporting to the Associate Chief Pharmacy Officer, The Assistant Director of Pharmacy for the Heart and Vascular Institute (HVI) conceptualizes, plans, implements and directs the provisions of pharmaceutical care throughout HVI. The successful candidate will serve as a role model for clinical excellence by ensuring that members of the pharmacy team uphold high clinical and educational standards. Goals for this position include providing leadership in planning, budgeting, management, standardization of processes, and implementation of strategic plans, best practice clinical programs, cost saving initiatives and patient medication safety strategies.

As the Director of Pharmacy you will oversee all pharmacy operations at including planning, organizing, controlling, and supervising activities, according to hospital policies, standards of practice of the profession, and state and federal laws. You will recommend innovations in the practice and function of the pharmacy to hospital administration and carry out mutually agreed upon programs. Director of Pharmacy is responsible for the continued growth, development, and implementation operational systems that support safe delivery of pharmaceutical care.

The 24/7 Pharmacy is centralized with some decentralization. Implementation of CPOE is nearly complete. The Pharmacy also utilizes Cerner Milennium, Talyst Carrousel and Sentry for 340B. In addition to the DOP there are approx approx 33 other staff. Pharmacists work 10 hour shifts. There are plans to open an Outpatient Pharmacy in 2013.
