Atlantic Canada based-firm Beothuk Energy is set to build a C$4bn offshore wind farm off the coast of Nova Scotia. The new wind farm, having a capacity of 1,000MW, will be built nearly twenty kilometres from shore in shallow waters measuring thirty metres or below in depth.
Power generated by the facility will be provided to New England through the planned Can-Am Link, which is a 200 nautical mile subsea cable.

Sydney/Islamabad: Just when we got used to the sight of drones in the sky, capturing stunning aerial views, it’s time to get a grasp on a new idea: drones underwater. Like its airborne cousin, an underwater drone is released to fulfil a mission on its own. It follows a preprogrammed path, captures images and other data, and delivers them back to base. Intelligent aquatic drones could even make autonomous decisions, like changing course to avoid obstacles, or identifying areas of particular interest. At least that’s the idea.

Oceaneering International, Inc. announced the appointment, effective January 1, 2016, of Martin J. McDonald as Senior Vice President, Remotely Operated Vehicles, with global responsibility for Oceaneering's Remotely Operated Vehicle ("ROV") business.
Mr. McDonald's career spans 26 years with Oceaneering. He most recently served as Vice President and General Manager of Oceaneering's ROV operations in the eastern hemisphere from 2006.

Lockheed Martin has selected autonomous and remote vessel manufacturer SeaRobotics as the OEM for its autonomous underwater vehicle (AUV), Marlin Mk3. The Marlin Mk3 is designed to work in waters as deep as 4,000 meters, enabling it to be used for activities such as pipeline inspection, deep-water survey, and life of field support services pertaining to oil and gas.

MESSAGE FROM THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR
Upwards of 20 representatives from the O&G industry will be attending their meeting and the different presentations and exhibitions at the show. Some of the operators that will be in attendance are TOTAL, Shell, ENI, Petronas, Petrobras, Exxon Mobil, Statoil, Chevron, Conoco Phillips, DONG Energy, Qatar Petroleum, and Premier Oil, BP, as well as other IOGP invited operators in the Gulf region.
Additionally, there will be other members who sit on the Diving Improvement Workgroup that will be in attendance. Some of the members who will be in attendance for that meeting will be such companies as Bluestream Offshore, Technip, Bibby Offshore, IMCA, Subsea 7, NUI, Namaka Subsea, Air Liquide, MIMIR, Fugro LLC, ABS, DNV, Lloyds, McDermott, CNS Int., Ocean Works Asia (OWA), BOSKALIS, KB Associates, KD Marine, FSDS, and the Offshore Simulator Centre(OSC). The usual gulf contractors and support services that sit on this committee will also be in attendance, as well as those invited by the IOGP DOSC.
The IOGP DOSC and Contractors Pre-meetings will be held on Tuesday, and the IMCA and DDMC meetings will take place on Wednesday.
Wednesday will be the day for the group to take in the show and attend the DSWG meeting. On Thursday the entire group will come together for a joint Diving Improvement Work Group meeting.

Three DIT grads-turned-instructors who started their careers working offshore on the Gulf have continued to pursue different career paths in diving but they all reminisce fondly about their formative times offshore. Jeff Stiffel, Britt Coates and Jake Dow, all DIT grads, collectively put in over six years working offshore gigs in the Gulf.

The Royal Commission on the Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland (RCAHMS) has charted and mapped nearly 18,000 maritime losses in Scottish from the 17th century to the present day.

To determine the cause of extreme fatigue in Navy divers after routine missions, the Office of Naval Research (ONR) is sponsoring work examining the most critical weapon in a diver's arsenal--oxygen itself.
The research is inspired by anecdotes from Navy divers suffering from severe exhaustion after dives. These tough individuals--among the fittest in the world--would be sluggish and weak for a day or two after a dive, even getting winded climbing flights of stairs.
