New On ADCI-TV

Stay current with what's happening in your industry by watching ADCI's video updates.

Pre-planned preventative maintenance programs work to ensure the safety of personnel and assist in mitigating costs associated with equipment failure. This episode reinforces the importance of such programs and discusses the benefits associated with them.

The Association of Diving Contractors International and the MTS ROV Committee have done it again! Underwater Intervention 2014 was a huge success. This year's show brought together stakeholders in the subsea industry for three days of education and networking. Check out the highlights in this episode.

This episode breaks down the steps that must be taken before conducting underwater operations. Job planning and Job Hazard Analyses are invaluable tools when assessing and mitigating risk and ensuring adherence to industry practices and regulations. ADCI contractors are committed to best industry practice, quality of work and the safety of their personnel over profit. This commitment reduces the risk of incident, injury and liability to a project's stakeholders.

The ADCI has implemented an industry-wide initiative to educate operators in the offshore and inland sectors, both internationally and domestically, on what is at stake when contracting for underwater services. In this episode, we tackle the topic of contractor selection and discuss what an operator should be aware of when looking to hire a diving contractor.

The Importance of Client Education
Episode One: Leadership

We begin our seven part series on client education with a conversation on the role of leadership and its part in mitigating risk for both the diving contractor and the client.

SINGAPORE - A 36-year-old commercial diver died on Wednesday while conducting diving operations under a container ship at Singapore's Eastern Holding Anchorage. The Ministry of Manpower (MOM), responding to queries on Thursday, said the diver was underwater taking photographs of welding work done on a vessel "when he was sucked into a space in the hull of the vessel".

Alvin, the little manned submarine that could, is still plugging away at the frontiers of ocean exploration half a century after it was first launched.
Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution, which operates the Navy-owned sub, celebrated Alvin’s 50th birthday on Thursday. Scientists count somewhere near 4,900 dives made by the three-man sub — and 2,600 researchers who have used it — to explore different parts of the ocean.
But Alvin was not available on Cape Cod for the occasion. Larry Madin, director of research at Woods Hole, said Alvin is in Gulfport, Miss. and would spend the day much the way it has spent every day of the past 50 years: working.
Deep-sea exploration is a risky business.

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Central Visayas District sent a letter to 2Go Group Inc. informing the latter about the possible threats the wreck of its vessel mv St. Thomas Aquinas poses if it’s not removed.
The vessel sank after colliding with mv Sulpicio Express Siete near the Lawis Ledge off the coast of Talisay City last August 16.
PCG 7 District Commodore William Melad said they received a report from 2Go last May 24 informing them that the vessel posts no danger to marine navigation and may not need to be salvaged.
The firm said a salvage operation is complicated and it will need foreign equipment. But if it has to go through with it, it wants to close the south entrance of the area to sea traffic, Melad said.

It was the "unsinkable ship" and the largest seagoing craft ever made. When RMS Titanic set off from Southampton, England, for its maiden voyage to New York, no one could have possibly imagined that only four days later it would collide with an iceberg, break in two and be forever consigned to the floor of the Atlantic Ocean.

The Antikythera mechanism is a multi-part machine that was developed, we believe today, to predict eclipses and other astronomical phenomena. It dates back to the 1st century BC; it was discovered at the turn of the 20th century off the Greek island of Antikythera. It is composed of bronze, and comprised of multiple gears. It is generally acknowledged to be the world's first analog computer.

The ROV market future can be dominated by the AUV in the coming decades. The improved AUV capabilities and the autonomy feature will involve the AUV for operations that restrict the use of ROV due to entanglement. The endurance and miniaturization of AUV will strive to be the prime driver for undersea operations. The introduction of the AIP (Air Independent Propulsion) systems and solar cells technology will change the future of the AUV.

There is a new fleet of robots, built outside Newcastle-upon-Tyne in the UK, whose makers hope will not just dim the spectre of mining job losses in England’s North East, but eradicate it completely.
Except nobody is proposing to re-open the region’s defunct coal pits: these robots will dive down to 1,500 metres and claw up the rich minerals and metals carpeting the world’s seafloors.
