This notice is being sent as a notification to all General Member Companies that are engaged in saturation diving operations that the requirement for having an emergency evacuation system (HRC or SPHL) went into effect on 19 July 2013. 

The requirements for Emergency Evacuation Systems can be found in Section 6.12.3 (Page 125) of the Consensus Standards for Commercial Diving and Underwater Operations (6th ed.). 

The requirement for an EES had been annotated by a superscript "3"–compliance required after 24 months from formal public release of the Consensus Standards for Commercial Diving and Underwater Operations (6th ed.)". The 24 month period ended on 19 July 2013. 

Additionally, all diving bells, submersible decompression Chambers, and closed bells had new compliance requirements that were also annotated with by a superscript "3"-compliance required after 24 months from formal public release of the Consensus Standards for Commercial Diving and Underwater Operations. 

The new requirements for diving bells, submersible decompression chambers, and closed bells can be found in Section 6.12.2.3 (Page 124) of the Consensus Standards for Commercial Diving and Underwater Operations (6th ed.). 

These new requirements went into effect on 19 July 2013.

Implementation of Certification and Equipment Requirements

Interested in contributing to UnderWater magazine?
UnderWater magazine is seeking feature stories and photography covering subjects of broad significance to the commercial diving industry. Possible article topics include, but are not limited to: safety, new techniques, new equipment, equipment reviews, recent projects, etc. Special attention will be given to articles highlighting safety; however, all topics of general interest to diving contractors will be considered.  The 2014 ADCI Scholarship Fund Raffle will feature a KM 37 – Stainless Steel (SS) helmet, a state-of- the-art diving harness, and Miller weight belt.  The helmet was donated by Kirby Morgan, and will be signed by Bev Morgan at U.I. 2014.  The diving harness and weight belt was donated by Divers Supply, Inc.

Tickets for the raffle are $25.00 a piece, and can be purchased from the ADCI office and at U.I. 2014, prior to the last day of the show on 13 February 2014.

For those who are not familiar with the ADCI Scholarship Fund, the fund was set up to assist students with pursuing their higher educational or vocational goals with an award of $4000.00.  Eligibility requirements are provided with the formal announcement that goes out each year.  The Chairperson for the ADCI Scholarship Committee is Mrs. Dori Ritter of Dive Commercial International, Inc.

Any ADCI member company can sponsor a student for award consideration by the Scholarship Committee.   I challenge all ADCI member companies to provide a contribution to the fund.  No amount is too small.  It is our one chance to give back to the community to support our most valuable asset, today’s youth.

The cargo of the so-called 'Pewter Wreck', has been described by a UK specialist as "unique in the 120-year history of the study and collecting of pewter". Divers from Anchor Research and Salvage (a division of Global Marine Exploration, a private company based in Tampa, Florida) found the remains of a 16th century ship and its cargo of European trade goods off Punta Cana on the island of Hispaniola in 2011.

Earlier this year, Subsea 7 opened its new Global Pipeline Welding Center in Scotland. The £10-million ($15.9-million) base is designed partly to further research and development (R&D) into new welding techniques for laying and protecting pipes in harsher offshore environments. It will also test processes to improve accuracy and productivity of welding of high-strength steel and corrosion-resistant alloy pipes on the company's pipelay vessels and at its various onshore spool bases.

A team of 11 Virginia Beach Seabee divers from Underwater Construction Team 1 (UCT 1), returned home from a Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, deployment where they conducted in-depth inspections and surveys, as well as provided disaster debris removal, as part of a peacetime reconstruction mission.

The search is back on: The International Group for Historic Aircraft Recovery is returning to the Pacific island of Nikumaroro next year to hunt for wreckage from Amelia Earhart's plane, reports NBC News. TIGHAR has already undertaken several expeditions at the site, where it believes Earhart and navigator Fred Noonan may have lived after landing on the surrounding reef.

Marine and fire safety equipment manufacturer Viking Life-saving Equipment is offering an adaptation of its successful Viking Shipowner Agreement to offshore owners and operators. The Viking Offshore Service Agreement helps operators manage multiple brands, equipment types, and regulatory approvals for safety equipment and servicing, the company said.

A field-proven technology, the Gemini NBI was successfully used by Reef Subsea to monitor the trenched installation of 6-inch and 2-inch cables, while using controlled flow excavation techniques. The seabed conditions around the site varied considerably however even where there was high turbidity Reef was able to clearly monitor the cables using the Gemini NBI.
