Well-Safe Solutions, set up by a group of oil industry stalwarts - including Alasdair Locke, Mark Patterson, and Paul Warwick - will provide a ground-breaking approach to the safe and cost-efficient decommissioning of subsea wells.
 
Traylor Bros., Inc. announced today it has signed a definitive agreement to make a significant financial investment in Ballard Marine Construction, LLC, with the option to purchase majority ownership in the future. Traylor Bros. and Ballard Marine Construction are very successful specialty contractors with excellent reputations in their respective industries. Specific terms of the deal are not being disclosed.
 
A Phantom® T4H ROV, designed and built by Deep Ocean Engineering, Inc., has successfully completed an inspection of the intake riser at Cherry Lake Dam near Yosemite in California. The dam, built in 1956, has provided water and power to the San Francisco Bay Area, Modesto, and Turlock districts for over 60 years, and the structure has not been seen since its construction.
 
The European Commercial Marine Awards (ECMAs) were launched on the opening evening of Seawork 2017. The ECMAs incorporated the Innovations Showcase, which this year attracted 41 entries from across Europe and was sponsored by Lloyds Register, with new awards for Professionalism, Sustainability, and Lifetime Achievement.

The ADCI Western Chapter Meeting will be held at the Santa Barbara Maritime Museum in Santa Barbara, CA, on Friday, September 22, 2017. The Historical Diving Society will be conducting its 25th Anniversary conference in conjunction with the Chapter meeting on the evening of 22 August and all day on the 23rd. The HDS Conference will culminate with its Annual Banquet Awards Dinner on the evening of the 23rd. The ADCI is soliciting comments for it upcoming revisions to the International Consensus Standards for Commercial Diving and Underwater Operations. Stakeholders are invited to provide comments for the upcoming edition 6.3. The comment period will commence on 27 June 2017 and conclude on 24 September 2017. The following areas will be available for comment: • General Provisions • Diving Personnel: Medical and Training Requirements • Diving Personnel: Responsibilities, Qualifications, and Certifications • Diving Modes: Definitions, Requirements, and Guidelines • Underwater Operations: Procedures, Checklists, and Guidelines • Life Support Equipment: Inspection, Maintenance, and Testing • Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs) • Emergency Procedures, Assessments, and Reporting of Accidents • Vessels and Floating Platforms for Diving Operations • ADCI Compliance Audit Procedures • Reference Materials
 
Underwater Intervention 2018 will take place February 6-8, 2018, at the Morial Convention Center in New Orleans, LA.  The new website has been launched (UI 2018), and new information is being added every week. The Bergen International Diving Seminar 2017 will be held November 15 and 16 at the Clarion Hotel Bergen Airport. The 2017 Topic is Smarter Solutions to Address the Industry's Future. NUI will, on behalf of The Association of Operators for Hyperbaric Lifeboat Reception Facilities repeat the success by arranging the 25th Bergen International Diving Seminar.
 
INTERNATIONAL NEWS
The largest majority privately owned producer of fresh salmon in Australia, Huon Aquaculture, has ordered a second Saab Seaeye Falcon underwater e-robotic vehicle. Their newest Falcon is now enhanced with Saab Seaeye’s iCON behaviour-based intelligent control architecture.
 
Industry body Subsea UK is hosting two briefing sessions with the Department for International Trade (DIT) ahead of SPE Offshore Europe 2017. The first briefing on August 28 will focus on the post-energy reform oil and gas sector opportunities in Mexico. Mariana Garay, energy senior officer for the DIT team in Mexico along with Chris Wall, DIT Business Specialist will give an in-depth view on developments within the Mexican market.
 
TWMA, a provider of drill cuttings and slop handling, management and treatment solutions, has been awarded a contract estimated to be worth around £1million with UKCS-focused E&P company, Azinor Catalyst Limited.
