UnderWater magazine is seeking feature stories and photography covering subjects of broad significance to the commercial diving industry. Possible article topics include, but are not limited to: safety, new techniques, new equipment, equipment reviews, recent projects, etc. Special attention will be given to articles highlighting safety; however, all topics of general interest to diving contractors will be considered. Photography accompanying your story is welcome and encouraged.

Arnold Lande, a retired American heart and lung surgeon, has patented a scuba suit that would allow a human to breathe "liquid air", a special solution that has been highly enriched with oxygen molecules.

FORT PIERRE - Fifty feet from a bank on the Missouri River, a helmet emerges from the water and then disappears again.
For an hour, diver John Jestes of Colorado has been searching beneath the water for an elusive pipe thought to be leaking water behind the city's emergency levee system. Before that, Connecticut diver Eric Levy had been in the water for two hours looking for the pipe.

This year rescue efforts focused on the western Mediterranean, just off Cartagena, with four diesel-powered subs from Portugal, host nation Spain, Turkey and, for the first time, Russia, 'bottoming' on the sea bed and awaiting rescue. Coming to their aid were mini-submarines, diving bells, divers, parachutists and medical specialists.

The site was discovered in 1989 after a long search by Zych, 62, a former hard-helmet diver for the military and a commercial salvage operator in Chicago. After a long legal battle, the Illinois Supreme Court declared Zych the owner of the wreck.

The Taiwan Ocean Research Institute (TORI) under the government-sponsored National Applied Research Laboratories has launched a new marine research ship specifically to explore the potential of power generation using the Kuroshio oceanic currents to the east of Taiwan, and to survey natural gas deposits in western offshore areas, according to TORI.

The Bureau of Ocean Energy, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE), the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) and the US Geological Survey (USGS) have announced that a multi-agency team of ocean scientists has launched an expedition using sonar to map deepwater canyons, and to identify sensitive biological habitats, coral communities and archeological sites such as shipwrecks and other historically significant sites.

Far more oil and gas is now being produced from subsea wells on the Norwegian continental shelf than from platform wells. The Norwegian Petroleum Directorate has collated production from the fields in 2010 and found that subsea wells dominate the picture.

Technip (Paris:TEC) announces that its wholly-owned subsidiary DUCO Ltd. has been awarded a contract, by BP Exploration Operating Company Limited, worth approximately €15 million for the Lan Do field development in Vietnam. This field is located 320 kilometers south of Ho Chi Minh City, at a water depth of 120-180 meters.

Designed by Marin Teknikk in Norway, the new vessel has an 18-man diving system rated to 300m, twin diving bells and twin 18-man self-propelled hyperbaric lifeboats. Gulmar Atlantis is also equipped with a 140 tonne crane with active heave compensation which is capable of working at a depth of 2,500m with a 70 tonne hook, and a 40 tonne crane capable of working at a depth of 600m.
