90-Day Public Review Announcement

The draft of the ADCI Consensus Standards for Commercial Diving and Underwater Operations, 6th Ed., has been approved by the Board of Directors for public review.

The draft will be posted on the ADCI Web site via a designated link. There will be a separate announcement to notify the membership that the link is up, kicking off the start of the review period. The review process will be open to all industry stakeholders.

The official dates of the review period are 25 September - 25 December, 2010.

UnderWater magazine is seeking feature stories and photography covering subjects of broad significance to the commercial diving industry. Possible article topics include, but are not limited to: safety, new techniques, new equipment, equipment reviews, recent projects, etc. Special attention will be given to articles highlighting safety; however, all topics of general interest to diving contractors will be considered. Photography accompanying your story is welcome and encouraged.

It was decided to ask for the support of our industry as a whole, given the significance of Dan Wilson's lifelong work. The Santa Barbara Maritime Museum is excited about creating a special display with Purisima to supplement existing diving and early offshore oil industry exhibits.

All of us were excited about the possibility of ADCI membership sponsoring this unique display that will honor our industry and a man who dared to "think outside of the box." Additionally, the display will be a significant representation of ADCI and commercial diving for tourists and visitors at the museum.

Scientists are tracking toxic algal blooms in Monterey Bay using a combination of ships, underwater robots, and floating instruments. The idea is to be able to follow marine organisms as they move around in ocean currents, said Jim Bellingham, chief technologist at the Monterey Bay Research Institute.

Minister for Education and Second Minister for Defence, Dr. Ng Eng Hen, officiated at the launch ceremony of the Republic of Singapore Navy's (RSN) Archer-class submarine, RSS Swordsman, at the Kockums Shipyard in Karlskrona, Sweden, today. The submarine was launched by Mrs. Ivy Ng, wife of Dr. Ng. RSS Swordsman was the second of the Archer-class submarines that the RSN acquired from the Royal Swedish Navy (RSwN).

Technip has been awarded a lump sum engineering, procurement, fabrication, installation, commissioning and start-up contract, worth nearly USD400 million, by the Khafji Joint Operations (joint venture between Aramco Gulf Operations and Kuwait Gulf Oil Company), for the Khafji Crude Related Offshore Projects. The Khafji field is in the Neutral Zone between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait.
