Local Government Disaster Preparedness Initiative

As part of a federal grant from the National Historical Publications and Records Commission (NHPRC), the Georgia Archives is working with ACCG to help improve disaster preparedness at the local level. The Georgia Archives revised the Pocket Response Plan (PReP) to make it useful for Georgia local governments and will be distributing this new tool to Georgia counties in the near future.

Importance of Registering for the SAVE Program

ACCG-GSIWCF Announces Dividend for 2010

The board of trustees of the ACCG-Group Self-Insurance Workers' Compensation Fund (GSIWCF) recently voted to return a dividend in the amount of $3 million to its members. The dividend will be in the form of a premium credit to members who have been in the program since 1999.

Urban & Community Forestry Challenge Cost-Share Grant Program

The U.S. Forest Service recently issued a request for proposals for the National Urban and Community Forestry Challenge Cost-Share Grant Program. Counties may apply directly for these funds. Georgia Insurer of Public Entities Declared Insolvent

On Monday, Oct. 26, a Fulton County Superior Court entered an order placing Georgia-based Southeastern US Insurance Inc. (SEUS) into liquidation, declaring it insolvent. ACCG Insurance staff is assisting the approximately 10 Georgia counties and authorities that were affected.

ACCG Group Self-Insurance Workers' Compensation Fund

Deadline Extended for Compliance with FTC Red Flag Rules

The FTC's Red Flag Rules to protect consumers from identity theft, go into effect on Nov. 1, 2009. Counties who provide emergency transport/ambulance service, utilities and other services for a fee, are required to take action if they have not already done so. No 2010 COLA for County Officials

Given the state of the Georgia and national economies, the General Assembly decided not to appropriate funds for a cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) for state employees, in the current state budget. Since state law requires that minimum salaries for county officials be adjusted to match any COLA granted to state employees, the COLA in 2010 for county officials is likewise zero percent. As such, counties need not budget increases for sheriffs, probate judges, clerks of court, tax commissioners, magistrates, coroners and county commissioners, for the calendar year beginning Jan. 1, 2010.

Ambulance Settlement Agreement

A class action suit is about to be settled, involving ambulances built on Ford ambulance prep package chassis with 6.0-liter diesel engines. It applies to those ambulances built between 2003 and 2007, in the E and F series. A settlement agreement has been preliminarily approved by the court. You should be officially notified of the terms of the settlement, by mail, in the upcoming months, regarding the terms of the settlement and your county's options.
