The Georgia Civic Awareness Program for Students (GCAPS) kicks off its second year in Oconee County!

 
On Nov. 7, the Board of Trustees of the ACCG-Group Self-Insurance Workers' Compensation Fund (GSIWCF) voted to return a dividend in the amount of $3.5 million to its membership. The dividend will be in the form of a premium credit to those members who have been in the program since 1999. The total value of dividends returned to the membership since 1985 is $33.7 million.

On Nov. 13, ACCG launched the 2008 Legislative Survey, which contains questions relating to issues that will be debated during the upcoming legislative session. The survey was sent to every county manager and administrator, or if the county did not have either position, the survey was sent to the clerk.

Late last year, in response to a petition filed by Cobb County and ACCG, the Georgia Public Service Commission (PSC) ordered the removal of half of the franchise fees levied by cities from Georgia Power's rate base. Georgia Power will be required to charge those fees back exclusively to municipal customers of Georgia Power rather than the unincorporated county customers who unknowingly now pay them through their power bills.

Rural Health Works is a community assessment process that assists counties in evaluating their health-care systems and in generating county-specific data. The ultimate goal of the project is to strengthen rural economies by increasing the use and expansion of health services. The application deadline is Dec. 15, 2007.
