The next qualifying period is April 28 - May 2, 2008, which means that if commissioners are interested in increasing their compensation, they must adopt the new compensation rate no later than the day before the first day of qualifying. To promote member participation in wellness activities, the ACCG - Group Health Benefits Program (GHBP) again offered Health Promotion Grants to those counties and authorities that participate in ACCG's health insurance program through Blue Cross Blue Shield of Georgia. Notifications to counties that are to receive grants will begin going out this week.

 
The Community Planning Institute will be held Tuesday April 8th and Wednesday April 9th in Hawkinsville, Georgia. This two-day training program in planning concepts and procedures will be conducted by prominent planning and legal professionals. The Georgia Historical Records Advisory Board (GHRAB) calls for nominations for the 2008 Outstanding Archives Awards Program. Every community has in its midst individuals and organizations that protect and encourage others to use Georgia's historical records. Nominate that person or organization by June 1.

 
Gov. Perdue recently called for applications for the second round of Certified Work Ready Community Commitments/Grants. Those communities that would like to begin the process of becoming Certified Work Ready Communities should complete and submit the Notification of Intent to Participate form by April 30.

 
Established several years ago, the County Courthouse Award recognizes innovative governance by county elected officials from NACo member counties. The deadline to submit applications is May 9.
