Industry News

Carl Logan has announced his retirement date, March 1, 2018.

Personally, I am extremely happy for Carl and his wife Sylvia, They embark on the next phase of their life's' journey in good health and safe to say… good cheer!

From a business relationship and co-worker perspective, Carl is going to be dearly missed by all he has encountered. I have been VERY fortunate to work with Carl the past 3.5 years, He is the epitome of a knowledgeable, professional Account Manager.

Carl's 45 years in the industry has seen him witness multiple mergers and consolidations. He began his career with Canfor Limited on St. Albans Street in Halifax in 1973, starting in the warehouse and then moving to the sales desk. He worked in the Flooring department for 12 years before transferring to Building Supplies in 1985. Canfor Limited merged with Weldwood of Canada in 1989 and Carl continued in his role as Outside Sales Representative covering Halifax, Dartmouth, Valley & South Shore under the newly
formed company CanWel Building Materials Ltd. He joined Weyerhaeuser Company in June of 1998 covering the province of Nova Scotia. He serviced that territory under Broadleaf Logistics who acquired Weyerhaeuser's Canadian distribution business in 2007. Carl rejoined his former company in 2011 when Broadleaf was acquired by CanWel Building Materials Ltd.

Carl has set a high standard for Sales Representatives in this business. Very few have managed a career with such loyalty, discipline and dedication to their company while earning the respect and admiration from his customers, vendors and peers.

Please join CanWel's Management Team and all his fellow employees in thanking Carl for his level of dedication, salesmanship, and integrity throughout the years. We want to wish Carl a healthy and happy retirement with his wife Sylvia and the rest of his family.

CertainTeed Insulation Canada is proud to announce that the CertainTeed Insulation plant in Ottawa is the latest plant to be inducted into the exclusive Saint-Gobain’s Millionaires Club — a program designed by the parent company to reward plants that have operated at least 1 million work hours without a lost-time accident.

The Ottawa plant is only the 12th out of 66 Saint-Gobain insulation facilities worldwide to be awarded this honour.

John Polnick, EHS Manager, at the Ottawa plant, says, “Our employees are really proud to have worked over four years without a loss-time accident. I’ve been on both sides of the business. I was a production worker for 12 years before moving into management four years ago so I know the importance of being recognized for a job well done.”

The employees were celebrated by the company at two dinner and dance events. The plant operates 24 hours a day so employees work 12-hour shifts. Two events meant each and every employee could attend. The Ottawa plant will now be able to use the Millionaires Club logo in communications and erect signage featuring the logo inside and outside the facility to promote its accomplishment.

CertainTeed fibre glass insulation products made in Canada are manufactured in a way that minimizes the environmental impact on the planet. The CertainTeed Unfaced Sustainable Insulation® batt product line is an insulation material made of fibre glass that consists of rapidly renewable content, a high percentage of recycled glass, and a new plant-based binder that has no formaldehyde, harsh acrylics, dyes or unnecessary fire retardants added.

All CertainTeed insulation products improve building energy efficiency, helping to lower energy costs throughout the life of the structure. Sustainable Batt Insulation acts as both thermal and acoustical insulation and is ideal for floors, walls and ceilings in residential, commercial, and institutional settings.
