Congratulations to Stan Burkholder - Recipient of the WRLA (Western Retail Lumber Association) Industry Achievement Award, January 19, 2018 Stan has been involved in the Industry for over forty years, spending twenty five years working in his family’s retail building supply business. He is well known across Canada as an Estimating Program Trainer for ABSDA, LBMAO, WRLA and BSIA of BC, spending approximately 120 days a year on the road. In his time at home, Stan serves charities on the local and national level, volunteers at his Church, is a baseball umpire and referees minor hockey games. Stan will be presenting Estimating and Yard Foreman Programs for ABSDA the week of April 9th.
Founded in 1968, Truefoam Limited is celebrating 50 years in business in 2018. Truefoam kicked off it’s Golden Anniversary Year with a birthday party on January 25th attended by industry leaders, local dignitaries and people associated with Truefoam’s proud history. Guests were treated to tours of the Truefoam facility and birthday cake, while Truefoam received congratulatory certificates from Municipal, Provincial and Federal Government Representatives. When it opened it’s doors in 1968, Truefoam was the only EPS manufacturer east of Quebec. It’s founder Eric MacNearney, and his partners built the market for EPS in Atlantic Canada from the ground up. Now, with over 70 employees in 4 manufacturing operations in Burnside, Yarmouth, Fredericton and in Newfoundland under Newfoundland Styro, Truefoam produces EPS insulation board products, ICF concrete forms, commercial roofing insulation and insulated packaging products. Look for Truefoam’s “Special Delivery” vehicle, a 1968 Chev C10 Panel van, hitting the road in 2018!

April 9 & 10 Link to Estimating Decks and Garages Registration Form This course is developed and provided by ABSDA to introduce a respectful process to understanding and completing manual take-offs for simpler building projects. It will give you the tools and training to help give better customer service in the estimating of building materials for deck, shed, and garage projects as well as front counter sales. April 11 & 12 Link to Estimating Residential Registration Form This course will give you the tools and training to help give better customer service in the estimating of building materials for house, roof and metal sheathing projects. It details and explains the processes required to become better at: understanding your customer, visualizing and breaking down building projects, understanding component and products use and calculations including waste considerations. April 13 Link to Yard Foreman/Operations Manager Registration Form This seminar is designed to provide a clearer understanding of what it takes to manage one of your most important assets – the YARD! Not only will your foreman return with a better understanding of his or her position and how it relates to the ultimate success of the total business, but your foreman will have firm ideas and methods ready for immediate implementation. Participants will learn the importance of a well-managed yard, storage and delivery operations in the retail building supply business.
ABSDA offers a series of on-line Training Videos for Members and Staff. This on-line training program is specifically designed to promote sales skills & customer service and is available on the ABSDA Website as a Member Benefit. The series incorporates five programs listed below, each with a compliment of videos which last between 6 minutes and 15 minutes in length.
