Matthew Payzant, General Manager of Payzant Home Hardware Building Centre in Lower Sackville, Nova Scotia has been awarded the 2017 Young Retailer of the Year Award by the North American Retail Hardware Association (NRHA).

The honorees represent three categories, including retailers operating multiple locations, stores with annual sales under $2 million, and stores with annual sales over $2 million. Payzant was one of the hardware industry’s eight award recipients and won under the category for successfully operating multiple locations.

The NRHA is now in its 21st year and honours the next generation of aspiring independent home improvement retailers as well as recognizes individual achievements of retailers 35 years and younger throughout the U.S. and Canada. Selected from different retail categories, winners were chosen based on a number of criteria including career accomplishments, community involvement, hardware industry education and extracurricular activities.

"The Young Retailer Award is a great honour, but I couldn't have earned it if it weren't for the hard work of our management team, our staff and the continued support of our customers. Since my grandfather started this company in 1964, Payzants has stood for quality, service and dependability and we continue to work hard on delivering that promise in each of our 5 locations." - Matthew Payzant, General Manager, Payzant Home Hardware Building Centre

The Young Retailer of the Year banquet was held at the Renaissance Las Vegas Hotel on May 8th, 2017.

Imperial Manufacturing Group, with its head office located in Richibucto, New Brunswick, has achieved Platinum Club status with the Canada’s Best Managed Companies program by retaining its Best Managed designation for seven consecutive years. Normand Caissie, accompanied with his executive management team, accepted the prestigious national award during the Gala celebrations in Toronto April 19th.

“It's a real honour to accept such an award on behalf of our near 1,000 employees in both Canada and the US”, said Normand Caissie, owner and CEO. “For a 38 year old startup company to achieve such a membership, you can just imagine all the hard work, passion, and dedication it took from our people over the years. Our employees, customers, suppliers…everyone working together made our organization a true success. We have so much to be thankful for.”

“Best Managed Platinum winners have exceptional insights and knowledge into business management practices. They are an inspiration and really take their game to a new level,” said Peter Brown, Partner at Deloitte and Co-Leader for Canada’s Best Managed Companies program.

“Best Managed Companies like Imperial Manufacturing Group exhibit exceptional business performance and outstanding leadership in the Canadian marketplace, sharing an investment mindset that places them amongst the best in class.” said Stephen Lund, Moncton Market Leader at Deloitte. “What sets a Best Managed Company apart is the ability to execute on its strategy. Goals become a reality when every individual within an organization is committed and understands what they can do to help actualize the strategy.”

“Companies that earn Platinum Club status, by retaining their Best Managed status for seven years or more, exemplify vision and leadership and a sustained commitment to growth and innovation,” said Jon Hountalas, Executive Vice President, Business and Corporate Banking at CIBC.

“We look forward to the next step of our journey.... continuous growth, acquisitions, new customers, new products, continuous improvement… all of this to become a better organization tomorrow than we are today” said proudly Mr. Caissie. “We live in a competitive global market and we need to be the best in our industry if we want to continue to excel for the next 38 years.”
