The AAPA Seminar for Members of Port Governing Boards, held June 19-21 in Montréal, featured several new topics and sessions this year based on suggestions provided by AAPA members.  Professor Karl Moore from McGill University, provided an engaging 90-minute presentation on Effective Decision Making. Karsten Mecklenburg, Head, Trade and Economic Section, Delegation of the European Union to Canada, discussed trade policy.  Other new speakers included Dan Bresolin, CN’s Assistant Vice-President of International Intermodal and Mathieu Charbonneau, Executive Director of CargoM, a group of freight transport and logistics stakeholders working together to establish Greater Montreal as a recognized intermodal hub.  

PortMiami is part of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers 2018 Work Plan that includes a $556,250 allocation for the start of a feasibility study for the Miami Harbor Safety and Navigational Channel Improvements Program. The Port of Vancouver will receive $167 million in funding from the Canadian federal government for three infrastructure projects that will improve the movement of goods and support Canada’s competitive position in international trade. The Port of Vancouver USA and Hawthorne Hydroponics LLC have signed a five-year lease for the port’s Centennial Industrial Building (CIB).

The Port of Long Beach is moving ahead with a $16.8 million project to build infrastructure to support electric-powered, zero-emissions cargo-handling equipment, and to demonstrate the world’s first heavy-duty, off-road, direct current fast-charging system in a seaport environment. The Port of San Diego has secured a nearly $5 million grant for the installation of a renewable, solar-powered microgrid at the Tenth Avenue Marine Terminal, one of the Port’s two marine cargo terminals.
