June 1 is the deadline for AAPA’s Environmental Improvement, Facilities Engineering and Information Technology awards programs. AAPA recognizes the best practices in the port industry through annual awards programs in several disciplines. Award winners will be recognized during the AAPA Annual Convention, October 1-4, in Long Beach.

Make plans now to attend AAPA's Port Security Seminar and Exhibition, July 19-21, at the InterContinental Chicago Magnificent Mile Hotel in Chicago (IL).  

An outstanding program has been developed by the AAPA Security Committee and its chairman, Joe Lawless of the Massachusetts Port Authority, for what will be the association's 17th security seminar since May 2001. Last year's seminar drew a large and enthusiastic audience; this year's promises to be equally engaging.
 
 
   
Container carrier StreamLines’ Blue Stream Service between Central America, the United States and Europe will be calling North Carolina’s Port of Wilmington beginning this June. The Port of Virginia welcomed Its biggest container vessel ever on May 4. The 13,092-TEU COSCO Development is also the largest container ship to visit the U.S. East Coast.
 
 
   
Two brand new, super post-Panamax ship-to-shore cranes are on their way to the Port of Mobile.
 
Central Florida-based dining products supplier Blackwood Industries, Inc., is now shipping imported products from Asia through the Port of Jacksonville (JAXPORT).

The American Queen Steamboat Company’s new American Duchess will be offering multi-day Mississippi  River cruises from the Port of New Orleans beginning August 14. Royal Caribbean International’s Empress of the Seas will return to Port Tampa Bay in 2018 for a season of summer cruises.
 
 
   
Cruise guests, locals and tourists enjoying New Orleans riverfront now have an added layer of security. On May 10, the port’s Harbor Police Department initiated bicycle patrols aimed at increasing security from Mardi Gras World to the French Market.
 
Fitch Ratings has affirmed the 'A' rating on Broward County's Port Everglades' outstanding $167 million port facilities senior revenue and refunding bonds, and has revised the Rating Outlook from Stable to Positive.
 
 
   
John Hoss and Shane Pirtle have each been re-elected to the Port Freeport Commission.
 
The Port of Long Beach reports container throughput this April jumped 16.5 percent from a year ago, thanks in great part to new business and changes to vessel deployments. April container volumes surged 8.9 percent at the Port of Los Angeles, making it the best April in the port’s 110-year history. The Port of Virginia® reports container traffic at its Hampton Roads marine terminals totaled 225,196 TEUs in April, an increase from last year of 4.6 percent and the seventh consecutive month volumes have exceeded 220,000 TEUs.
