JAXPORT’s Asia container trade jumped 13 percent during the first six months of fiscal year 2016-17, to 178,249 TEUs from 157,689 in first half FY 2015-16.  The trade has grown by an average 23 percent annually for the past five years. JAXPORT’s fiscal year runs from October 1 through September 30.

Mexico’s port system processed just over 73.0 million metric tons of cargo during first quarter 2016, an increase of 6.1 percent from a year ago, according to "preliminary" data compiled and reported by the federal port agency, Coordinación General de Puertos y Marina Mercante.

Energy efficiency programs implemented by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey have resulted in savings amounting to more than $9 million annually and a 25,000-ton reduction in greenhouse gas emissions – the equivalent of removing 5,300 cars from the road. The Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is honoring 12 cargo shipping and two cruise lines that in 2016 excelled in environmental stewardship and attained the highest participation rates in the port authority’s EcoAction Program.

West Plains LLC received its first grain of the season April 25th at the Port of Brownsville with the arrival of 109 rail cars of corn from Nebraska. West Plains has invested more than $5.5 million in preparation for what was the port’s first grain shipment in more than seven years.

The U.S. Saint Lawrence Seaway Development Corporation (SLSDC) recently announced that six U.S. ports in the Great Lakes St. Lawrence Seaway System received the agency’s Robert J. Lewis Pacesetter Award for the 2016 navigation season.

The Board of Commissioners for the Port of Palm Beach District voted April 26 its approval of a new 10-year contract with the port’s largest tenant, Tropical Shipping.
