A Port of Oakland executive outlined a $600 million spending plan for growth at his West Coast trade gateway in a presentation at last week’s AAPA Planning for Shifting Trade workshop in Tampa.  Maritime Director John Driscoll told the audience that Oakland would increase trade volume by investing in new facilities and better infrastructure. A long-tenured Port Everglades tenant and the largest occupant of the on-port Foreign-Trade Zone No. 25 is spearheading the development of A new logistics center on nearly 17 acres of port property. A proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) facility at Port Fourchon will produced LNG for shipment export and for fueling offshore supply vessels operating in the Gulf of Mexico.
 
 
   
The Houston City Council recently reappointed Dean Corgey to the port commission of the Port of Houston Authority. The Port of Seattle Commissioners accepted the resignation of CEO Ted Fick on February 2 and named Chief Operating Officer Dave Soike interim CEO.
 
Port Everglades will continue to serve as Silversea Cruises' winter homeport for the next two years pursuant to a new agreement between Silversea and the Broward County Commission.  October 12-13, the port will welcome the ultra-luxury line’s newest ship, the Silver Muse.

For the sixth consecutive year, the public marine terminals at the Port of Baltimore received a top rating of ‘excellent’ on a security assessment from the U.S. Coast Guard for 2016.  
 
A shipment of snow peas from Guatemala was flown from South Florida to Amsterdam Wednesday evening, February 2, as part of Florida's first ocean-to-air transshipment program designed to save perishable cargo shippers time and money.  Port Everglades was the port of entry for the first shipment of perishable cargo participating in the new program, which was developed in partnership with Crowley Maritime Corp's Miami-based subsidiary Customized Brokers and Miami International Airport (MIA).
 
 
   
The Alabama State Port Authority on February 2 joined the National Port Administration of Cuba in signing a five-year cooperative agreement at the Tampa Marriott Waterside Hotel in Florida.

During the 2016 shipping season, the Port of Hamilton received 562 vessels carrying 9,277,282 metric tons of cargo, a 0.4 percent increase from 2015 and the most of any Canadian Great Lakes port.  Agriculture, the steel sector, bulk liquids and heavy lift were the primary cargo categories. The Ohio River Port of Indiana-Mount Vernon handled nearly 2.5 million tons of cargo during fourth quarter 2016. That shattered the port’s record set in the final quarter of 2014 and made October-December 2016 the highest volume quarter in Ports of Indiana history. The Port of Longview moved more than 8.3 million metric tons of cargo across the dock in 2016 - the most in the last three decades and a nearly 30 percent increase from the 6.4 million tons handled in 2015.
