Patricia Jacobs, president of AT&T New England, was sworn in September 1 as a member of the board of directors of the Massachusetts Port Authority by Gov. Charlie Baker. Longview port commissioners unanimously approved the appointment of Norm Krehbiel as the port’s chief executive officer at a special meeting on September 1. Krehbiel has served as interim CEO of the Port of Longview since January.
 
 
   
The Port of Vancouver USA is moving forward with design and permitting for a 125,000-square-foot industrial building, with construction scheduled for this fall. The Centennial Industrial Building (CIB) will be a state-of-the-industry facility customizable for one to five tenants with dock and grade doors, on-site office space, easy access for tractors and trailer turn around, and ample electrical supply.
 
 
   
M/V JS INEOS Intrepid set sail September 1 with the first cargo to be shipped from the brand new Enterprise Products ethane export terminal in the Port of Houston. U.S. Navy, Maritime Administration and California Environmental Protection Agency representatives joined city and port officials on August 30 to commemorate the approval to transfer ownership of 125 acres of a former Naval complex to the City of Long Beach. The property transfer commemoration highlighted the economic success of a thriving shipping terminal and other operations on the site of a former Navy facility in the Port of Long Beach. The Oregon Department of Transportation has awarded a $2.6 million ConnectOregon grant to the Port of Portland and port tenant Auto Warehousing Co. to fund part of a $7 million expansion of auto handling facilities in the Rivergate Industrial District near Terminal 6.

In June, the Port of Vancouver USA issued revenue bonds for $40 million – the first issuance of its kind in the port’s history.
 
In 2015, the City of Nanaimo partnered with the Nanaimo Port Authority (NPA) to install a new fire suppression system on board the NPA Osprey Patrol Boat. The new system, which includes a fire pump and firefighting equipment, was unveiled August 26 at a demonstration event hosted by Nanaimo Fire Services and attended by representatives of the port authority and city council.
 
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey on September 2 announced the completion of the bi-state seaport’s Main Navigation Channel Deepening Program. The $2.1 billion project, cost shared between the Corps and the Port Authority, was initiated prior to the announced improvements to the Panama Canal. From 1989 to 2016, 38 miles of federal navigation channels in the New York Harbor have been deepened to a navigable depth.
