Stephen H. DonCarlos and John D. Kennedy have each been reappointed to the port commission of the Port of Houston Authority – Mr. DonCarlos by the Harris County Mayors’ and Councils’ Association and Mr. Kennedy by the Harris County Commissioners Court. The board of commissioners of the Port of Longview has selected current Chief Operating Officer Norm Krehbiel to serve as interim chief executive officer. The Port of San Diego has appointed two new executives - Vice President/Chief Marketing Officer Bella Heule and Vice President/Chief Operating Officer T. Scott Edwards. The San Joaquin County Board of Supervisors has voted to appoint Dr. Elizabeth Blanchard to a third four-year term on the Stockton Port District Commission.
 
 
   
America’s waterborne commerce increased in 2014, up 3.1 percent from the year before to a three-year high of 2.35 billion short tons, according to data compiled by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers’ Waterborne Commerce Statistics Center. The Corps’ data also show that ranked by tonnage South Louisiana stood first among U.S. ports in total trade and domestic cargo while Houston was number one in foreign trade.
 
The Port of Indiana-Jeffersonville handled 2.8 million tons of cargo in 2015, an increase of 16 percent from 2014 that gave the Ohio River port its second successive record tonnage year. The calendar year count at the Port of Savannah hit a record high in calendar year 2015 of 3.73 million TEUs, beating the previous record, set in 2014, by 11.7 percent. Cargo tonnage at Georgia’s public ports also set a record in 2015. A surge in container volumes and the continued success of grain and wood pellet terminals at the Port of Prince Rupert helped stabilize overall 2015 results in the wake of declining coal volumes and international commodity markets. The South Jersey Port Corporation (SJPC) reports handling cargo totaling 2.5 million short tons, a 12 percent increase from 2014 and the third consecutive year of double-digit growth for its marine terminals in Camden and Salem, New Jersey.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency recently awarded the Board of Commissioners of the Port of New Orleans a $727,000 Clean Diesel grant for the port’s voluntary Clean Truck Replacement Incentive Program, or Clean TRIP.  A science-based program to monitor and manage the ecosystem of the Roberts Bank inter-causeway area of Port Metro Vancouver concluded after eight years that the ecosystem has not suffered any significant negative impacts due to the construction of a third berth at the Deltaport container terminal.
