CALENDAR OF EVENTS
Congratulations to the 2014 recipients of The Excellence in Education Student Scholarships:

Tess Brooks | Texas Women's University

Melanie Prada | Baylor University

Miguel Rojas | Dallas Baptist University

The program awards a $1000 one-year scholarship plus the net proceeds from the Silent Auction held during The HRSouthwest Conference. Full or part-time students pursuing studies in the HR field are selected based upon their academic standing, involvement in their community and campus, and by recommendations of their professors, advisors and/or employers.

Have You Registered for Your Chance to Win $100?

Registered attendees of The HRSouthwest Conference who elect to participate in the Refer-A-Friend program are eligible to win a $100 Visa gift card in one of eight weekly drawings...and only three more chances remain. If you know other HR professionals who have not attended HRSWC in any of the last three years and could benefit from this valuable educational experience, then refer them to The Conference. Every qualifying attendee you refer who registers for the Full Conference earns you one entry and BOTH of you a chance to win.

If you are already registered and didn’t elect to participate, it’s not too late. Simply click on "Register Now" at hrsouthwest.com/register and select "Modify" to edit your profile survey information. Be sure to know your registration confirmation number.

Please ensure that your chapter board has taken care of these items:

  • Be sure that you are maintaining your chapter affiliation requirement throughout the year.

  • If there have been any changes in your volunteers, report them to your Regional Administrator. Keep SHRM informed of any changes to volunteer email addresses, contact information and role changes.

Gina Duncan will be the Speaker for a special break out session.  Gina is a National and International corporate trainer specializing in transgender dynamics in the workplace. Thinking Critically - It is Time to Rethink the Way We Think

On September 18th, AHRMA features just that - a day of opportunities for us all to explore a different way of thinking.  The National Council for Excellence in Critical Thinking (a non-profit organization based in the U.S) defines critical thinking as the intellectually disciplined process of actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, and/or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, reasoning, or communication, as a guide to belief and action.  Whew....that is a head full of big words!

Bottom line - we need to take another look at the "how, what, when, where, and why" we do our profession.  We need to Pivot ever so slightly so that we can see creative solutions to our problems of overwhelm, frustration or perceived lack of credibility - and overall, our business. Through new information, interaction, and the discovery of new tools and techniques, join us on September 18th for a whole day to "Rethink the Way we Think."

By attending two professional development sessions and the AHRMA luncheon on September 18th, you can achieve up to 5 HRCI recertification credits at the Strategic Business level.
