MPI - Kansas City Chapter

PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
##SHARELINKS##
Dear KCMPI Members and Friends,

WOW...it has already been almost eight months since I became your Chapter President! During this time, we've seen many Chapter successes. As we slide into 2013, we are rounding the bases to end our fiscal year with a run of 10 for 10.

What does that mean?

It's time to stop and brag about our top 10 Chapter successes for 2012 (there are more but I had to stop at 10!)

10. You asked...we listened!
Your Chapter website, KCMPI.org was redesigned to better meet your needs: including more up-to-date information on programs and events, more Chapter membership stories and easier navigation. A homerun!

9. KCMPI's After 5 Events!
We brought back fun, new ways to network and showcase venues!

8. The KCMPI Connections!
Less email in your inbox, more concise Chapter information delivered to you each month. One stop information for our members!

7. The KCMPI Chapter is Best in Class!
KCMPI was asked to present our Chapter's Strategic Alliance Database as a best practice at the MPI-HQ Chapter Business Summit in Dallas, TX to all other MPI chapters. Based on this presentation, several other chapters are now looking to design their own version of this database. And, KCMPI was nominated for a RISE Award for this database project.

6. Field 2 Table 2012!
KCMPI hosted our 4thannual F2T event and we hit it out of the park - again!

5. Engaging our Past Presidents!
Our Past Presidents hosted an engaging and entertaining Past Presidents Program in October.

4. KCMPI is Smarter Than a 5thGrader!
Here is a trivia question for you...who had their 1stAnnual Trivia Night this past November? Answer: KCMPI did...way to go!

3. Members Love KCMPI!
Did you know that KCMPI ranks 3rdoverall out of all the MPI North American Chapters with a 77.54% retention rate?

2. KCMPI is a pioneer!
KCMPI is collaborating with the Kansas City Meetings Industry Council (KCMIC) to co-host the first ever Kansas City industry wide education conference and tradeshow.

1. YOU!
You are a KCMPI Member and this is your chapter! This is your chapter and with that these are your accomplishments!

If you are a Board Member, Committee Chair, Lead or Committee Member you should be especially proud---YOU made the above items happen!

Keep it up and we will end the year with a homerun!!!

In hospitality,

Kara Brady
KCMPI Chapter President, 2012-2013

EDITOR'S NOTES
##SHARELINKS##

 Greetings fellow KCMPI Members!

A quote from T. Alan Armstrong caught my eye recently ---"If there is no passion in your life, then have you really lived? Find your passion, whatever it may be. Become it, and let it become you and you will find great things happen FOR you, TO you and BECAUSE of you."

After reading our KCMPI President's Message, I could not help but appreciate the efforts of so many members to keep the Chapter not just going, but making it one of the best among all the MPI Chapters nationwide. Our joint efforts, our combined passion and commitment to KCMPI, is what makes it what it is today -- the same passion and commitment we hope present and future members will always have as this is what will determine what KCMPI will be tomorrow.

Have you asked yourself lately, "What am I passionate about?" Whether it's your family, your work, your religion, KCMPI, a hobby, whatever it is, be passionate about something. Life is short and we will only live it once, but if we live it right, once is enough!

Hope you enjoy every e-newsletter we send your way. Your comments and feedback are always welcome!

All the best,

Maria

Topic:  "Using Business Intelligence to Manage Events Strategically"

On January 23, KCMPI's event"Using Business to Manage Events Strategically" was hosted at the Kansas City Library and was enjoyed by 30 members of our chapter. The presentation reviewed four steps of the event planning process:Sourcing, Contracting, Event Planning and Post Event. Rob Wilson with Meeting Evolution, provided a framework of each phase and how to be strategic in capturing information to be able to re use that information the next time you, your department or organization are planning an event. After each phase, the attendees discussed three questions at their tables and then reported back to the group their findings. The session was very interactive and members learned a lot about process and how other colleagues are being in planning their event.

Remember, managing events strategically is moving from logistics to strategic.

Name: Diana Midyett
Title: Meetings and Conventions Coordinator
Company: Bayer HealthCare Animal Health
Membership Years: 5 years

I have seen the value of KCMPI from the sidesof both vendor and planner. In the late 90's as Director of Sales at the St. Joseph, Mo Convention and Visitors Bureau I used my membership to make important contacts. I was new to the area and I knew from my previous experience with MPI that I needed to find the closest chapter immediately!

Now as a planner I would never miss the yearly Education Conference if I can help it. Any other events I attend have been enjoyable and educational. It always rejuvenates me and reminds me what a wonderful profession I have the honor to work in.

If you want to know excellence in both the planning and vendor side I believe a membership in MPI and being active in your local chapter is the best opportunity you have.

Name: Dan Nilsen
Title: CEO
Company: Bishop-McCann
Membership Years: Since 2001 (12-year member)

A few years after starting Bishop-McCann, Gwen Knight, B Waldo and Julie Green introduced me to MPI. At that point in time, the local chapter had been around for several years. I ended up joining because I try to surround myself with like-minded innovative people. I saw that this organization would be a great opportunity to assist in achieving that goal. 12 years later, I am still a member of MPI. I strongly support and encourage our associates in their desire to be active in the chapter whenever they can. MPI has allowed us to be connected to the global meeting professional community, expand our experience through volunteering in the chapter and promote educational advancement. I value the connections that I've made throughout the years and the relationships that have continued to grow and develop. I am proud to be a member of MPI.
