PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
##SHARELINKS##

If you said yes to any of these questions I have an opportunity for you. The chance to serve others while partaking in the benefits of the events industry. Bear with me for a moment while I tell you my story and how I realized that what you put into your KCMPI membership is what you get back.

I joined KCMPI about six years ago and at first I attended events and sat by myself. I was not developing relationships, I was not making important connections and most importantly, I was not having fun. I was always to busy to serve on a committee and used the excuse that I did not know anyone to keep me from reaching out.

When I finally made the decision to join a committee I was a bit reserved, but willing to help out however I could. I met some wonderful people and started creating some important connections. I found a mentor that has been influential in my career and I starting having lots of fun.

I know that I am not alone. Several other people who have joined KCMPI and taken that scary step to join a committee have told me how powerful being involved is. It takes you from being an event attendee to really being a part of an organization that makes a difference in our industry.

I know that we are all busy with work, home, church, kids, spouses, charitable organizations and many other important things that fill our day. Please take a moment today and ask yourself what you want out of your KCMPI membership. If you are looking for more, here are a few ways to get started.

1. Volunteer your Time - here are some committee options

  • Membership - This committee likes to meet over lunch or cocktails to discuss how to support our members.
  • Leadership - This committee takes time out to thank our volunteers and leaders for their service.
  • Education - This committee focuses on the hard hitting educational events, but they meet after work and do a little socializing while they plan.
  • Social Events - This committee plans the fun social events during the year such as the holiday party and the 30th anniversary party.
  • Finance - This committee may seem dull, but after a meeting of crunching numbers they relax with a cocktail and share "war" stories.
  • Communications - With all of the eating, drinking and socializing someone has to communicate to others what fun they could be having. We do this through the website, newsletter, press releases and social media.

Interested in serving on a committee? Let me know at shana.hoy@huschblackwell.com

2. Volunteer your Talents -

  • We are always in need of people to help out with projects, whether it is helping make calls to members, greeting people at events, taking photos and writing about your experience at an event or soliciting some sponsorship.

Contact our Director of Leadership Andrea Heldt Coates at eventdevelopmentinc@gmail.com to let her know how you can pitch in.

3. Volunteer your Treasure -

  • Ok, so some of you are just not sold yet. That is ok, as a non-profit we accept cash sponsorship donations to cover the cost of operations and our events. Would you (and/or your company) be willing to sponsor an upcoming event?

If so, please contact Sarah Morrissey at SMorrissey@vistaprod.com.

KCMPI is about making important connections for your professional and personal life while learning and having fun. Serving on a committee helps you to make those connections and provides opportunities for you to experience new, fun, hip, fresh and relevant ideas, events and connections.

Please join me this year in volunteering.

The weather was perfect, the company superb, the evening significant.  It started on the mini coaches, provided by AGENDA: USA and Kansas City Transportation Group, where dinner guests began to relax and unwind while they were transported to the orchard enjoying hors d ‘oeuvres prepared with locally grown produce and wine provided by Jowler Creek Winery.

Arriving at Cider Hill Family Orchard dinner guests were greeted by our charming hosts, Jeff and Joan Schearer, twenty five acres of beautiful scenery, live entertainment and robust conversation that flowed throughout the evening.  Each guest received an engraved wineglass provided by Grapevine Designs. The beautiful harvest style table was adorned with flowers, vegetables and glowing candlelight.

The view from the dinner table was indeed fall with pumpkins and apples announcing the arrival of harvest and sunset’s glowing reflection on one of five ponds.

Olive Events Chef Marisa Roberts flawlessly prepared and served a family style dinner showcasing local products.  Each course awakened your senses and represented the best a meal can offer.  The sights and sounds of dinner were so much more than a meal; they were a celebration of the producers, preparers and servers that crafted an evening to remember.

After dinner, guest took a leisurely stroll to a welcoming open fire pit where hot apple cider was cooked and served along with specialty teas, provided by Adventures With Tea,  that complimented dessert prepared with fruit  fresh from the orchard.

Field 2 Table 2011 was a celebration of KCMPI’s 30th Anniversary and showcased the best KCMPI offers, food, fun, friendship and community connections that reach beyond the evening.

In the background coyotes howled as the final steps of take down concluded.  Their voices raised in anticipation of what was to come next year at Field 2 Table 2012, Thursday, September 20.

I am MPI & I love what we do! KCMPI has been a great stepping off point to learn about my surroundings and meeting new people!

I first moved to the Kansas City area from the east coast in February of 2010.  I was starting a new job in new surroundings and did not know a soul.  My first thought was "How can I get to know some people in my industry?" The answer for me was KCMPI.

Joining this organization has put me on the fast track of getting to know everyone that was necessary to make me successful in my new role at the Hotel Phillips. In the course of just one year, I have made wonderful connections with other people in my industry, both suppliers like myself and other meeting planners. These relationships are what prompted me to become more involved with in the KCMPI organization.

It has been an invaluable experience to work so closely with everyone.
